This is me taking back control of my life. What the *&^% have you done lately?

Perfect Enemy is an advanced writing RPG inspired by the worlds of the Jumper and Wanted movies. People aren't as they seem, and the truth isn't necessarily important.

The fate of mankind is decided by a binary code written in a fabric woven by an ancient Fraternity of assassins, but the story that's told here isn't binary. It isn't black and white, good and bad, light and dark, like the Paladins teach. It's what's in between that counts. And it's in those in-between places that the Jumpers roam. It's an intricate dance, woven together like something from The Loom of Fate. Where do you fit in?

Back out in the kitchen himself by this point, Leon shakes his head. Make him what? Caffeine is only going to make him jittery and nervous, which won’t help anything. And Annette is already clearly nervous herself; clearly she doesn’t know what to do. She’s good at keeping a cool head, but although she is still managing to be on top of things, Leon can tell that she’s at a loss.

They both are, really. Although he’s used to running, he’s not used to having assassins after him. And Annette… well, she’s not used to running at all. Really, Rose is the only one who’s going to be on top of things, unfortunately. He hates to leave it all to Rose, but what else can he do? She’s the super assassin. He’s just a teleporter, and he can’t even do that in front of Annette.

“No thank you,” he says shortly. “She should be here soon. I think… I think we’re ready.” How to comfort her? He has no idea. He’s just managed to drag her into a potentially life-threatening situation. Yeah. Very good job comforting he‘s been doing. “We’ll be okay, you know. She knows what she’s doing.”

Annette rolls her hands over each other, trying not to look as nervous as she feels. She nods when Leon says he doesn't want anything. She seems almost slightly disappointed. Obviously she can understand why Leon doesn't want anything, but Annette had been hoping to do something to busy her mind. She looks around for a bit before deciding on something to do.

Annette takes out a small bowl and a handful of things from the fridge. She mixes the ingredients in the bowl, primarily a lean ground meat along with some spices. Once the consistency is acceptable Annette takes a dropper out of the cupboard and mixes two doses of the cats' carsickness medicine into the mix. She forms them into two balls before moving on to the stove.

Annette puts a small frying pan on the stove and puts the burner on a high heat. She splashes a bit of oil on the pan before placing the two individual lumps for the cats on the pan. Annette sears the outside of the meat before placing the two servings on the counter to cool. She makes quick work of washing the utensils she had used before washing her hands and turning back to the counter.

The two cat treats have cooled and Annette takes them to the cat carriers. She slides the treats through the bars, one for Rita and one for Remy. Annette stands then returns to the kitchen. She looks at Leon. Now she is entirely out of ideas. She has taken care of literally everything she can think of to take care of and now all they have to do is wait for Rose to get back and hope they aren't killed in the mean time.

After disposing of the two bodies (in more of a rushed job than she would prefer, but they’re gone), Rose changes disguises, shedding her handyman’s uniform and abandoning the truck after wiping It for prints. With any luck, if anyone ever found anything, they would blame it on the mafia, on whose style she was basing her disposal. Of course, no one from the Fraternity would believe that for a second, but they still wouldn’t know who did it.

She returns to Leon’s apartment wearing loose trousers, a camisole and a nice jacket, blending in well enough with the French on the street. She checks, but she’s not being tailed, and by the time she enters Leon’s building she’s reasonably sure she’d gotten away with it. It would take a while before she would stop checking for tails, or rather more specific tails, but… well. They would have two days or so before Alecto and Gianni would be expected to report in, so they had some time.

Not wanting to be caught on camera enterting the apartment, she’s careful to stay out of the sights of the ones in the building, disabling them as she reaches them. It’s messy, but it’ll be effective, since hopefully they won’t be leaving through the hallways. Leon being a jumper, and all.

She knocks lightly on his door, which no longer has a latch or a doorknob, before pushing it open slowly, gun in hand. Only when she’s checked the room to make sure it’s secure does she look at Leon and the… tall, blonde housekeeper. The gorgeous, tall blonde housekeeper.

Refusing to think about the implications of him having a woman who looks like that working for him, whom he’d been so panicked about earlier, Rose looks down at the cat carriers. She’s assuming she’s going to make sure their new location is secure (all of them, not just the cats) and… well, she doesn’t know exactly what will happen, after that. Somehow, after seeing that women, she doesn’t think Leon would want a repeat of a few nights past.

“Ready?” she asks quietly, her eyes flicking back and forth between them. She stays near the door, clearly not a part of their little group.

Tense, Leon had looked up when Rose knocked, ready to grab Annette and Jump out of there and screw the consequences (also known as Annette discovering that he can teleport)… but then he relaxed, seeing Rose as she pushed open the door. This is going to be fantastic, he thinks, letting out a breath. He’s nervous as hell and jumpy (no pun intended), Annette is at a loss for the first time… ever, and Rose… is eyeing him and Annette as though… oh, Jesus Christ.

How can he handle that right now? Good god. It hadn’t even occurred to him that Rose would think… then again, he hadn’t thought Rose would meet Annette, had he? And how is he supposed to reassure her without insulting Annette? Or… insulting Rose? Odds are if he mentions anything, she’ll act like she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Son of a bitch.

Maybe they should… go wherever they’re going, first. If he could get her alone… except he can’t leave Annette. What if someone found her? She’s the least prepared to deal with any of this out of all of them, by a long shot. And it’s his fault she’s part of this mess in the first place.

He glances over at Annette when Rose asks if they’re ready, and she nods a bit. He turns back to Rose. “I believe so. Is everything… okay?” What, like dead bodies? Christ. This is not going to end well.

Not moving from her position near the door, Rose nods slightly. Dear Lord, they have luggage. Suitcases. This won’t be obvious at all; the entire building, the doorman, anyone who sees them leave will know that Leon had gotten into a car and driven off. This puts a kink in her plans. She’s going to have to steal a car, drop them off at the woman’s apartment or wherever the hell they’re going, and then dispose of it. Bloody hell.

If not for his damned housekeeper, they could jump out of here and their exit would be untraceable. Now they will leave something of a trail no matter what they do or where they go, and she won’t be able to erase it all. Shit. She hopes he knows he will need to Jump them somewhere, or they’ll be caught by whoever her father sends after Gianni and Alecto. And the first place she herself would check would be the homes of known associates, and clearly, this woman is an associate of his in one or more respects. Hmph.

Eyeing the amount of luggage and the cat carriers, she sighs slightly. Of course she's going to help them, luggage and his girlfriend or not. A housekeeper with enough of her clothes at his apartment to fill a suitcase. A housekeeper who dresses like that. But it’s Leon, who Rose may or may not be… well. “I’ll meet you downstairs with a car.” And then she disappears through the doorway again, off to boost some sort of vehicle before they can make it down to the ground floor. This, at least, she can concentrate on.

Annette takes a slight step back when Rose enters. With a gun. They are waiting for a woman, though, and this is a woman. Unless Leon pissed off an elite squad of all female assassins, the chances of this person being here to kill them and not being the woman they are waiting for is slim. Granted, Annette can't say that she would be entirely surprised if Leon had managed to find and piss off an amazonian hit force.

Regardless, this woman is the one here to help them. Annette can't help but notice what she assumes is distaste from the gun-toting woman. She isn't surprised at all, though. This dark haired woman seems to be highly trained, very fit, and wearing pants. Annette is a blonde woman in heels, known to be a housekeeper for a living, and looks as though she could be snapped in half by the woman at the door. Not to mention the woman at the door most likely assumed that packing suitcases was Annette's idea. While they were her idea, Annette also expects that they may not be coming along. They are there in case they're coming along.

Of course, Annette would have had more questions than "Is it ok?", but that seemed like a loaded "ok." She's sure that the other woman knows what Leon is talking about. Annette doesn't understand why the two of them didn't exchange any more details. Maybe there is some sort of secret agent code Annette is just not privy to going on here.

When the woman leaves Annette looks to Leon. She looks thoroughly confused, and as though she is pleading for some sort of direction, but she is also doing her best to remain calm. She is waiting for direction regardless, whether they should wait or if they are taking everything downstairs now. Or maybe if Leon has decided that Annette is going to be too much trouble and won't be bringing her along. She is doing her best to be helpful, maybe she's just making things worse. Annette rubs her knuckles anxiously. She would never want to do anything that could put Leon in harm's way, even if that means she should not go with him, but she also has to admit that she is scared now.

With Rose now gone, Leon slowly turns to look back at Annette, not sure what to do. A car, a car. Fucking hell. He knows why Rose is annoyed this time- a car would leave a trace. Honestly, he’s even more against that, instinctively, than she is. He teleports, after all. He supposes he could tell Annette… but he’s against that even more than not Jumping.

After all, who knows what her reaction could be? Plenty of normally pleasant, reasonable people go completely insane when confronted with something like that. Leon should know. No. He can’t tell her. They’ll just have to do this the difficult way. Jumping will have to be a last defense. Because if it came down to scaring the shit out of Annette and losing her forever but keeping her safe, or leaving her in a dangerous situation… he would Jump her in a millisecond.

But not yet. They’re not that screwed, not yet. Although they might be, and they all seem to know it. Which is why Rose is annoyed. Well. That, and god only knows what else she thinks. She jumps to conclusions faster than he jumps to Finland.

And Annette… looks terrified. She’s keeping it together, but she’s afraid. Leon… can’t blame her. He is too, and he knows what’s going on. “We’ll be okay,” he assures her. “Let’s grab everything and meet her downstairs. We‘ll take the back stairs.” And he… well, he’s carrying a gun, he’s no Fraternity assassin but he could at least draw the fire of anyone attempting to shoot them.

Annette nods silently. She takes in a breath before moving to the dining room. Annette places the black leather messenger bag over her shoulder that contains their important documents. She takes Rita's cat carrier in her left hand and the handle on the side of her large suitcase in the right. This leaves the second suitcase and carrier, as well as duffel bag for Rose, for Leon to carry. Annette waits for Leon to pick up his items before leaving the flat and taking the rear stairs.

Even with her arms full Annette doesn't seem phased by walking down the stairs in heels. She's been wearing heels for nearly all her life. If she can do it, she can do it in heels. She allows Leon to walk in front of her, knowing that he will likely have a better idea of what specifically to keep a look out for. Annette knows how to spot suspicious characters, but Leon may know exactly who it is that is after them.

The trip down the stairs seems uneventful, though. Annette has a pleasant smile on her face now that she's out of the flat. Anyone in the building would be a lot more familiar with Annette than Leon, and seeing her without a smile would be fairly suspicious. Seeing her doing any sort of task, especially with the cat carriers, doesn't register as notable to anyone that might see her, though. Regardless, Annette knows she should be acting normal even if she can tell Leon is still as stressed as he can be without having a stroke.

The trip down the stairs is uneventful, and possibly more nerve-wracking because of it. They do not see a single soul as they walk down, despite Annette’s very good appearance of this being perfectly normal. Leon looks normal as well, or as normal as he can; for him, this isn’t normal, and the people who would recognize him in his building know that. He doesn’t walk around the building, and he doesn’t carry around luggage.

But here they are, and despite trying to look normal, anyone who knew them would wonder what was going on. So it’s lucky, luckier than usual, that they don’t run into anyone on the way down. Well, that and it’s lucky since no one has shot at them. Then again, if someone did shoot at them, they’d be in Turkey before anyone could blink. But that would also cause quite a few problems that Leon is trying to avoid.

They do avoid it. For now. Now all they have to do is find Rose… get in a car… hide out from super assassins… try to explain to Rose that he’s not sleeping with Annette without getting stabbed… you know. Nothing stressful at all.

A moment later, a small delivery van (just large enough to accommodate three humans, two cats and some suitcases) pulls around the corner, flaunting a few traffic laws. But since to obey traffic laws would be to drive in a strange sort of manner in Paris, this is not an abnormal occurrence.

Rose spares a moment to wonder why, why they're standing right in front of the door, perfectly visible to any and all passerby. She also spares a moment, currently blaring on the horn at the driver in front of her, to notice that they make quite a nice pair, both tall and quite well-dressed, with their matching suitcases.

Suddenly feeling as though she's about to lose the contents of her stomach, Rose pulls up in front of them, blocking them from the view of other drivers. She doesn't get out but waits for them to load everything, and as soon as the side door is shut she accelerates out into traffic again, nearly colliding with a SmartCar.

One of the cats is making rather ill-sounding noises, and she shoots the couple in the backseat a wary look. "Do they become sick to their stomachs?" She has no idea; she's never had a cat.

Annette is well aware that she doesn't know how to act in a situation like this. She's been raised and taught to blend into any situation, so she does her best. She follows Leon, walking when he walks, and stopping when he stops. She waits next to him until he moves towards the van, when he does Annette follows closely and keeps up with the fast pace. She is able to enter the van, with luggage, with more ease than would be expected from a woman in heels.

Finally, Annette lets out a small breath when all three of them are in the van. It isn't some safe haven or their permanent hideout, but it's a step away from danger, Annette imagines. She rearranges the luggage slightly and does her best to wedge the cat carriers somewhere that will be the most insulated from the movement of the van while still allowing the cats to breath. They are rather unhappy with all this. Annette usually does not transport them in such an erratic way. They make their displeasure known.

"They are just unhappy." Annette answers. "They should quiet down in a few moments."

At this point, Annette hopes she's allowed to talk to this Rose woman. The question may not have even been directed at her, but despite them being Leon's cats Annette is the one who knows more about their travel behavior. She also knows that the cats should be metabolizing their Dramamine soon, which will help. Annette hopes that they are all civilized and mature adults and no drama will arise from simple things like who a question was addressed to when they are more pressing matters at hand. Either way, Annette sits quietly now, her eyes moving slowly between the interior of the van and the scenery they are passing.
