This is me taking back control of my life. What the *&^% have you done lately?

Perfect Enemy is an advanced writing RPG inspired by the worlds of the Jumper and Wanted movies. People aren't as they seem, and the truth isn't necessarily important.

The fate of mankind is decided by a binary code written in a fabric woven by an ancient Fraternity of assassins, but the story that's told here isn't binary. It isn't black and white, good and bad, light and dark, like the Paladins teach. It's what's in between that counts. And it's in those in-between places that the Jumpers roam. It's an intricate dance, woven together like something from The Loom of Fate. Where do you fit in?

Dawn continues to seem reluctant about going with Flash. It seems a little too convenient that someone who she has never seen around would show up, like badminton, and be the good samaritan offering to drive her home. But...he didn't make her hurt herself...did he?

Really, though, he is winning. Dawn is just slow to outwardly admit it. He's very cute and she doesn't really get a lot of company...and he has a shiny car. Shiny cars are fun. Finally it seems obvious she has been won over. She smiles cutely before leaning down and grabbing her bag. Dawn attaches herself to Flash again, for support, and begins walking out with him.

"Ooookay." Dawn says, obviously feigning reluctance now.

Dawn holds her bag in one hand and wraps her other arm around Flash's back. Luckily, her arm is a little higher than is waist or else she might discover what he has tucked into the back of his waistband, and then she would certainly reconsider that ride offer. But, she does not notice. She looks instead at her bike on the rack once the two of them get outside. She doesn't seem concerned with it, more like making a note that it is there and to remind herself where to go to come back for it.

"Great!" Flash responds, smiling at her and leading them out of the gym. He actually is aware of where her hand is in relation to his firearm, but also knows he's nimble enough to move out of the way should her hand start to stray into dangerous territory.

It doesn't take long to reach Flash's car (or... the Fraternity's car that Flash is 'borrowing'), which is display quite prominently in the closest spot he can find. One of his favorite things about LA is the lack of need to be inconspicuous; in big cities like LA, everyone is trying to be as flashy as possible. Heh.

So instead of the boring navy blue sedan he gets stuck with on more covert missions, he's got a fully loaded Audi R81, with a shining silver paint job and platinum rims.

It really is the type of car you'd imagine to see in a James Bond movie.

"Here we are," he says, his tone just a bit smug. "Let me get the door for you."

He lets Dawn get her balance on the side of the car, even forgiving her for touching it as he opens the door and helps her inside.

A smirk settles on his face as he walks around the car, tossing his keys up in the air. The scent that envelops him when he steps inside is that of new leather and industrial car cleaner. The leather is grey and soft, the scent is tantalizing, and there's a gorgeous mom (WOMAN) sitting in the front seat; it's perfect.

And almost too easy for him to forget he's on assignment....

"So, where to, miss?" he says, in his best 'chauffeur' voice, trying to make up for all the suave he is lacking.

Dawn looks giddy when she sees the car that Flash is leading them too. Oh yes, It is shiny. And fancy. And fast. Dawn grins when Flash opens the door for her. She is reluctant to touch the exterior of the car, but she needs it for balance. She is careful when she does and is just as careful as she slides into the seat.

"Do you know the Lighthouse Inn on Mount Warren Boulevard? Head that way." Dawn answers. She assumes if he is familiar with the area at all he should have an idea of what direction that is.

Now, Dawn pulls a notepad out of her bag. The paper has a faded orange design of paw prints and the word "roar" watermarked into the background. There are light orange lines guiding the writing on the paper. It seems to be a list Dawn is keeping. She looks at it for a moment.

At the bottom of this list Dawn adds a new entry in her loopy handwriting. Bike-->Gym

"Sure," Flash replies to her directions. After all, her address was the reason he found her at all, considering she's actually stayed here just long enough for him to get a tail on her. Not only does he know where he's going, he's got cameras and his own surveillance set up along the way. Just in case little ol' Hunter wants to pay a visit to Mommy dearest.

Catching sight of the creamy, pale thighs in the seat next to him, his thoughts are suddenly off the mission as he turns the key in the ignition, bringing the car to life. It's one of those cars that's just so cool it has to be stick. He shifts seamlessly between gears as he pulls out of the parking lot, not lurching the car forward like a lot of inexperienced drivers. It's a skill he picked up during Fraternity training. Apparently driving hot rods is mandatory for all loom-sanctioned assassins. Who is he to question it?

At the first red light, he glances over just in time to see Dawn scribbling on a piece of paper. He doesn't catch what she's writing, but he does see the word 'GROCERIES' traced over several times with multiple exclamation points.

"Did you need to stop anywhere?" he asks. "Like the grocery store?" His tone of voice makes it clear that he has no idea how creepy his apparent knowledge of her needs really is. "You're not going to be able to walk and carry groceries on your own for a few days. How about I make you something for dinner? It's the least I can do."

After all, dinner means dessert. He's just hoping it's not the kind you eat at a table. Or it could be at the table for all he cares, he's really not that picky. Some of his best 'dessert' has been had in unconventional places. Never has it been quite so unconventional as to involve a mom though....

Stop thinking about her being a Mom.... Stop it, stop now.

Dawn takes note of the ease with which Flash handles his car. His shiny, fancy car. When they ease to a stop at the first red light Dawn looks to the younger man when he speaks to her. A sudden wariness comes on her face after he speaks. That's too many things at once. She does need groceries, he is making a good point for that, but she doesn't have time to respond either way before he suggests making her dinner. Again, this is a little more involved than Dawn wants to be with this stranger.

A young stranger with a car as expensive as a college education. Why isn't this young man in college? Where did he get this car? What does he do when he's not playing badminton?

So far, though, Flash has done nothing to make it seem that he is any less than genuine. So, for now, Dawn can agree to groceries. She'd seen his eyes move to her lap where her list is fairly obviously displayed, so she isn't suspicious of how he knew she needed groceries. Dawn manages a sweet smile, now looking as if she feels she'd asked him for all this and is burdening him.

"There's a little organic store tucked away by the beach on the way." Dawn answers. That is her agreement to going grocery shopping, she'll hold off on agreeing to dinner yet.

"Are you sure I'm not holding you up? I'm sure you have better things to do." Dawn asks sweetly. This serves dual purposes. She is fishing for information, and for compliments.

"Okay," he responds to her statement about the organic store. She says it's by the beach, which is closer to her house than the community center. He doesn't know specifically where the store is as he hasn't seen Dawn go there during his surveillance, which is more than likely why she needs groceries now. And if it earns him some brownie points and the right to come over again (which, of course, is clearly just to enhance his surveillance), then all the better.

"No, you're not holding me up at all," he replies, shaking his head a little as he smoothly directs the car to take the next left. "If you hadn't gotten hurt, I would have sat in front of my computer all night." Which is entirely true, except for the fact that he wouldn't be playing games or chatting like most people his age; he would have been continuing his search for her son.

He glances down at the speedometer, silently calculating the mileage in his head.

"We should be there in just over six minutes," he says. "So let me know where to turn off." Six minutes and thirty seven seconds, actually. Thirty six, thirty five....

He turns his head to offer her a smile and admire the view of her against his leather seats. Again. He's never been very with girls (or in this case, a woman), but he's been told that he wins points for being cute and awkward. And 'genuine.' Though he uses that term loosely, because although he may be as articulate as a cardboard box, he's very, very good at concealing the truth in other truths.

"You eat organic?" he asks after a moment, filling the silence as they drive. "Not enough people realize how dirty their food is. Organic is totally the way to go."

That's one of the little disgusting tidbits of knowledge that he picked up during graduate school. Although he's able to push the thoughts away long enough to enjoy a cheeseburger every once in a while, he tends to eat lots of produce and unbleached starches. He does not like the idea that food additives can mess with his brain.... He doesn't really like the idea of anything messing with his brain.

Dawn smiles, although she does find it a little unusual how specific he is about the time. People usually round to five or ten minutes. Or "in a bit." Or...something else. He doesn't know where to turn off for the store, but he knows that it will take them six minutes to get there? Dawn attributes this to Flash being a "numbers person", which she assumes he is. Some people are number people, mathy people, maybe just not her.

"I try to eat organic as much as I can..." Dawn answers. "Regular food is kind of creepy."

Dawn's attention moves between the inside of the car and the scenery they pass. She watches the shoreline and the roadside, but she spares glances for the speedometer and Flash. She makes sure not to let him catch her looking at him, although he would have to be looking at her to catch her....

"It's this left up here by that big wood sign." Dawn points out.

The small store is tucked back from the beachside road. The parking lot is gravel and the sign by the road is carved wood with weathered paint. The parking lot is filled mostly by dirty jeeps and this year's hybrid, not so many luxury cars. He is certainly the only car without some sort of bumper sticker about recycling or human rights or some outdoor sport.

Flash can feel Dawn's stare continue to creep over to him and he turns his head just in time to catch her eye. As soon as he finds he, he turns away just as quickly, feeling the warmth creep up his cheeks. She's watching him. Or checking him out, either way her eyes are on him. That's a start.

He turns the car at the indicated lot, hearing the gravel crunch under his tires as he pulls into a spot near the front. He turns off the engine, slipping out of the car and hurrying around to the other side to help Dawn. He may also have sped things up, just a bit, so she didn't have the chance to get out before he opened her door.

Some of the other store patrons, dressed mostly in flowing cottons that scream 'I'm an activist!' give him dirty stares as he opens the door, extending his hand toward Dawn. What, he has to drive a fuel-saving POS to eat healthy? Not.

Once they get inside, it's clear that the tiny grocery store does not have any of those motorized carts, so he grabs them a regular one, pushing it over toward Dawn.

"You should use this for support," he says, guiding her over to it. "You don't want to hurt your ankle any more."

He lingers behind her for a just a second before stepping away, keeping a close enough distance to be open without being overbearing. "Where to?"

Dawn is surprised to find Flash opening the door for her and waiting before she can get to it herself. She pulls herself out of the car carefully, sure not to put her hands on the exterior of the car. She glances around at some of the other patrons. She doesn't like the attention being paid to her and Flash. Some of them recognize Dawn and are confused about her having someone with her, or her being in a car, but most of them just watch as she hops into the store.

Once she gets to the cart Dawn has a better time getting around. She places her forearms over the cart, her weight on her elbows. This way she can support her weight while hopping along with her good leg. She bends her right leg at the knee to keep her injured ankle hovering over the ground.

Dawn's lips part for a moment while she thinks about where she wants to go first. It's the store. she's not really used to having someone ask her about what she does at the store.

"This way." Dawn answers, steering towards the produce.

Dawn places her bag in the basket of the cart and pulls out a canvas bag with the store's logo on it. She places it in the bottom of the cart and begins filling the bag with produce as they go through. She seems to be a healthy eater, besides organic. Once they're done with fruits and vegetables it seems like this is going to be the bulk of her groceries.

"You eat organic, are you vegan too?" Dawn asks. It's fairly clear she's looking to strike up some sort of conversation so that Flash isn't just grudgingly following her around the store. And so that maybe he'll have to walk next to her instead of behind her. She stops at the coolers and eyeballs the milks for a few moments before grabbing a half gallon of soy milk and continuing to the rest of the aisles.

Watching Dawn select produce is some kind of perverted torture that he's sure is going to earn him a place in hell. Her long, delicate fingers feeling out the bruises and knots of cucumbers, squash and other various groceries is not helping his twenty-five year old libido keep in check.

Though when she speaks, Flash's step pauses for a second. Does he eat vegan? That sounds like a very loaded question, especially in a place like this. Is she going to start yelling at him for being a horrible person because he enjoys a good steak or mac and cheese?

"Uh, no," he replies cautiously. "I eat meat and dairy, too, I just like to know my food is clean. You know, not genetically modified. And stuff."

Because knowing what goes into that really kind of creeps him out. He feels like DNA from bacteria and other organisms should not be used to alter his food. People have been eating normal beef and vegetables for centuries. There is no need to mess with it.

He does manage to step beside her though, so he doesn't look like a creeper hovering behind. He's still close enough to catch her, should she stumble, though.

Dawn certainly hadn't meant for her question to be a loaded question. She just didn't want to buy meat and stuff and expect a vegan man to drive her home with it. He's being so nice that she doesn't want to push her luck. Since he's not vegan, though, that makes her shopping a lot easier.

"And because if cows weren't meant to be eaten they would be able to run faster." Dawn adds with a grin.

She circles back towards the coolers now, looking at the meat. She seems to be looking for something in particular before she gets to the end of the meat section. She looks through the glass door to see the young man stocking back there. He looks like your standard surfer type. Dawn knocks on the glass door. No response. She knocks again, this time with much more insistence. Now the man looks up, pulls his headphones out, and nods before disappearing for a moment. He returns with a large turkey.

"I was beginning to wonder if you were coming back." The man says as he places the frozen bird into her cart. It has a blue label with Hebrew writing over it.

"Why is it blue?" Dawn asks, seeming very concerned about this. Someone might be trying to trick her into buying the wrong kosher turkey.

"They changed their packaging." The man answers, not seeming confused by her concern over these details. Dawn still looks slightly displeased with the stock man. "If it's wrong, I'll buy you a new one." Seeming appeased, Dawn leaves and heads back for the regular aisles. She picks out standard cupboard groceries now.

Flash lets out a surprised laugh at her joke. He's certainly glad she didn't call him some murdering pig (pun intended?), but he wasn't expected her to joke about it.

He watches the exchange with an amused look on his face. It doesn't take him long to recognize the Hebrew characters, even if he can't read them. Apparently Dawn can't either, as she's clearly confused as to why her turkey looks different. He doesn't blame her; he'd rather not buy a turkey and get it home and find out it's actually a large goose. Kosher may be healthier, but it's not like she can just read the label.

"You're a regular," he notes, trying to sound nonchalant. Actually, he's a little disappointed that it took him so long to find her if she's been here long enough to be known by the grocery staff. Maybe his surveillance skills have slipped. He hasn't actually had to find anyone in almost six months. His last several targets were all very easy to find.

He writes this all off as Hunter and Dawn being particularly ellusive. After all, he still hasn't been able to find out how Dawn seems to get from one side of the country to the other, without record of buying a single plane or train ticket. Maybe this mission will help his skills sharpen again.

The organic store is much smaller in comparison to a normal grocery store and it doesn't take them long to get through the majority of the aisles.

"How's your ankle?" he asks, wanting to make sure she's not hurting herself. He sees her hobbling along, but he doesn't want to physically assist her. Even if he is looking for extra prospects to accompany this particular mission, they are still virtually strangers. One can only be so friendly before becoming creepy.

"It's a small store." Dawn comments, as if she knows she it trying to make him feel better. "And I have some kind of weird requests sometimes."

Dawn walks down the final aisle, stopping only to stare at the organic candies before passing them over for baking supplies. She doesn't have the metabolism of a 25 year old, so she has to eat a lot better to look like one.

"It's ok, still sore, I'll definitely ice it when I get back." Dawn answers.

When they get up to the check out counter there is no line, so Dawn proceeds directly to the register. Seeing that Dawn is limping, the girl at the register just leans over and looks at the items, punching them in without taking them out of the cart. She totals everything up but shakes her head when Dawn begins to reach into her bag.

"You have store credit." The girl explains. Dawn still looks confused. "That man you told us about gave us a really good deal on the brown-egg chickens, we were able to get twice as many from him as we were going to from our regular seller."

Dawn just stares at the girl a little more. "Oh." The check out girl comes around the counter and bags up the loose items in the cart, using a new canvas bag from behind the counter. The girl's eyes move between Dawn and Flash, sparing a glance at his fancy car. The register girl clearly believes there is something going on between her regular customer and this cute young man. Although, she also seems like she may be eying Flash in hopes that he is Dawn's son or nephew or something and might be fair game for her.

"Have a nice day." The girl finally says to the two of them. "You too." Dawn answers.

Dawn pushes the cart out of the store, still using just her left foot to propel her. She waits by the car, assuming that Flash will probably want to put these things in the trunk. Another customer arrives, another usual as evidenced by his greetings to the store workers that are on break outside. He has a large German Shepard with him that he lets run without a leash. It comes bounding over to Flash and Dawn, clearly expecting some sort of attention from these new interesting people. Dawn recoils, putting the cart between her and the dog and keeping her hands tucked up at her chest like the dog may try to bite them off. She looks very unhappy about this dog until the owner finally calls it back to him. Dawn continues to keep an eye on the large animal like it may come back for her the moment its owner isn't looking.

Flash waits a comfortable foot or so behind Dawn at the register, rocking on the balls of his feet with his hands in his pockets. He notices the cashier smiling at him and he gives her one of those tight smiles in return, the kind where the corners of his lips pull back but the rest of his mouth doesn't move. He doesn't understand why she keeps looking at him; he just wants her to ring up Dawn's groceries so they can get going to her place. Only because there might be clues about Hunter there. Right.

He furrows his brow about the 'man Dawn told them about.' Flash knows a lot about unscrupulous business practice and he'd be lying if he said that didn't sound funny. Maybe it's his Fraternity-trained senses that are tingling, but he makes a mental note of the reference.

Dawn's reaction to the dog makes Flash instantly unreceptive of his vie for attention and he places himself between the two of them,

"Shoo," he says, waving the dog away until his owner calls him. He gives the man a glare, turning back to Dawn as the owner offers a half-hearted apology.

"You okay?" he asks, seeing her still tensed and unnerved. He opens the truck of his car, starting to unload her bags. "Come on, let's get you home and get some ice on your ankle."

Dawn keeps an eye on the dog until it is back at the heels of its owner. She doesn't like dogs like that. She smiles, but blushes a little when Flash shoos the dog. She appreciates it, but doesn't like looking out of place. It's just a dog, right? People deal with dogs all the time.

"Yea." Dawn responds.

She moves towards the passenger side door of the car again. Dawn places her hand on the exterior of the car with care, she doesn't want to mess it up or something. She just rests her palm on the car without flattening her fingers. Dawn lowers herself into the seat and shuts the door behind her gently.

"Thank you." Dawn says with a smile once Flash enters the car as well. Her to-do list is out, now updated to reflect her grocery purchases.
